CORONA COVID-19 Safety concept for carpooling Switzerland

Our safety concept
for carpooling in Switzerland

HitchHike safety concept

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic (coronavirus), HitchHike has developed a safety concept for carpooling. The safety measures below are based on the recommendations of Switzerland’s Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) and relevant sectors. The priority is the health of everyone using carpools and containing COVID-19.

Anyone who has COVID-typical symptoms (cough, temperature, headache) should refrain from offering or participating in carpools

People should refrain from shaking hands and making direct physical contact

Everyone carpooling should wear a mask

The car should be ventilated regularly during the journey

Passengers: disinfect or thoroughly wash your hands before getting into the car

Drivers: keep the car clean and sanitised

If a person is subsequently found to be infected with COVID-19, the carpool should report this to the authorities for contact tracing

Other sensible measures

  • Regularly clean car door handles
  • Ventilate the car before starting the carpool
  • If there are two people carpooling, the passenger should sit in the back to maintain a greater distance
  • Carpools are limited to a maximum of 3 people

Information about our sources

Our safety concept for carpools has been put together from the various sources listed here. We have produced this safety concept because we felt that it was something that had been missing. The concept was produced in close coordination with Switzerland’s Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) and also in close contact with the Federal Office of Transport (BAV).
